Biography

Late Attorney Hafez A. Jaber was a leading figure in the development of Jaber Law Firm and the founder of its third generation. In 1968, he transformed the law office from an individual practice into a structured law firm, laying the foundations for what would become a long-standing legal institution. He later worked alongside his sons, Attorney Dr. Talal Jaber and Attorney Omar Jaber, contributing to the firm’s continued growth and institutional strength.

He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the Lebanese University in 1968 and became the primary Managing Partner of Jaber Law Firm in 1971, a position through which he played a central role in shaping the firm’s direction and reputation.

Attorney Hafez Jaber held several prominent public and professional positions. He served as the Lebanese State’s Attorney for more than fifteen years and was designated by the Lebanese Government as lawyer of the Lebanese State from 1995 until 2010. He also represented the Beirut Bar Association in the Aley District for over fifteen years. Within the Beirut Bar Association, he served as a member of the Disciplinary Council and later as its Head for a prolonged period. He also presided over the Environmental Committee of the Beirut Bar Association, reflecting his broader commitment to professional and societal issues.

He attended numerous legal conferences organized by the Arab Lawyers Union across major Arab capitals and obtained a degree in arbitration from the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration and the Lebanese Arbitration Association, further strengthening his expertise in dispute resolution.

Beyond his legal practice, Attorney Hafez Jaber was actively engaged in intellectual and social causes. He was among the active voices advocating for the separation of religion from the state and for women’s rights. He contributed to legal and public discussions on adoption, civil marriage, and the enactment of a unified personal status law in Lebanon. His engagement extended to various social, intellectual, and developmental associations and initiatives.

At the outset of his career, he specialized in criminal law, later expanding his practice to include real estate, financial and commercial law, lease matters, personal status law, as well as labor and social security law. He authored numerous studies, articles, and legal commentaries published in Al Adl Magazine of the Beirut Bar Association, as well as in several Lebanese newspapers and legal publications.

In a lasting contribution to the judiciary, he and his brothers donated land for the construction of Aley’s new Palace of Justice in memory of their late father, Attorney Anis Jaber, the first lawyer of Aley.

Attorney Hafez A. Jaber passed away in May 2019 at the age of seventy-three. He is remembered for his dedication to the legal profession, his public service, and his enduring contribution to the development and legacy of Jaber Law Firm.
